Design Our Car Competition

Collaborative Manufacturing in the Emerging Technology Center

What do you get when you take imagination and creativity, focus it on a specialized topic or group of ideas, give it a platform for bringing all these ideas together, then multiply it by a factor of limitless possibilities? It looks something like a unique and growing process called collaborative manufacturing.

Rather than limiting ideas to one small group of company engineers, automaker Local Motors decided to throw open the doors to a whole design and engineering community — and that's how its cars are born. It's helped Local Motors build a base of passionate followers, and, as their slogan says, it's how they "build COOL cars"!

The IMTS community is getting its invitation to join this community through our car skin design competition. YOU can help design and select the skin that will appear on the IMTS car – to be built in the Emerging Technology Center at IMTS 2012!

The competition begins Feb. 7. Participants will have 2 weeks to submit their ideas. Vote on your favorite designs from Feb. 23 till March 10

Ignition Key

The car skin design competition is new to the IMTS community so we wanted to share the "ignition key" or motivation behind the car with our IMTS design community. This information as well as more information from Local Motors will be live on Tuesday, February 7th at forge.local-motors.com. Review all the IMTS motivation ideas below to help you develop some ideas before the competition begins on February 7th. Good luck!
